About ISSA

ISSA aims to provide opportunities worldwide for people who dream of learning to sail to make a start in a sailing school. Also, ISSA provides an international career path for sailing and windsurfing instructors to teach sailing and windsurfing in other countries.

ISSA is a non-profit international association which provides a framework of common standards of quality and safety for sailing and windsurfing schools throughout the world. The ISSA standards apply equally to the certification of students completing sailing and windsurfing courses at all levels of ability. All ISSA sailing and windsurfing instructors are trained to the same of levels of competence.

ISSA is managed by a committee elected from its member sailing and windsurfing schools.

ISSA was created in 1969 in London by:

  • Les Glenans FRA
  • Polish Yachting Association POL
  • Yacht Club de Morges SUI
  • Casa di Vela Caprera ITA
  • National Schools Sailing Association GBR
  • Centro Internacional de Navigacion de Arousa ESP

ISSA’s Mission is to

Promote Yachting in the regions, areas and among people where it is not popular yet. This is an excellent activity for individuals and families. Helps to develop respect to other people and nature.

Educate those who decided to occupy themselves with water sports. Water sport activities
provide a lot of fun, but we need to obtain some preparation to enjoy it to a full extent.

Standardise training worldwide. We are committed to assist the ISSA schools to maintain
the highest and most modern standards of education. We are also open to help those who
are not associated. With safety being the main priority.

Exchange Cultural Experiences between various countries. As an organisation present on
most of the continents we aim to contribute to mutual understanding of people originating
from different cultures.

About the Conference

Image

The ISSA, together with the IYFR ‘Pomerania” Fleet, are organizing a conference to involve environmental experts and yachting related organizations in a more active approach to marine environmental issues.

The ISSA has been involved in sea and water related activities since its very beginning, thus it is our responsibility to make ISSA students aware of the problems arising in the maritime world. We don’t have the resources and power to remove the pollution but we can involve the ISSA students into the prevention process. They could possibly become the ambassadors of awareness building.

The conference will comprise of 3 topic areas:

1. Presentation of issues related to maritime pollution
2. Presentation of initiatives/ solutions that were undertaken to tackle the environmental issues
3. Education as the main means to prevent environmental problems
